Privacy notice

This page explains, in plain language, what information this website collects and what happens to it.
Browsing this site
This site has no analytics, no cookies, no advertising and no tracking tools. Its fonts and images are served from this site, so reading a page doesn't send your visit to any other company. The company that hosts the site receives the technical details every browser sends, such as your IP address, so that it can deliver the pages.
Some links go to other websites, such as Google Maps, our booksellers or a podcast. Those sites have their own privacy practices.
Sending a consultation request
The form on the Request page asks for:
- your name, email address and phone number
- which therapist you'd like to talk to, or no preference
- which services you're interested in, if you tick any
- a few words of your own if you tick 'Other' and choose to add them
- whether you'd prefer in person, video or either, if you say
- the best times to call you, if you say
- how you heard about us, if you say
Please don't include other health details in a request or in an email to us; email isn't a secure way to send sensitive information. The services you tick, and anything you add under 'Other', can show what you are seeking help with, which is why they are left out of the backup described below. You can talk about what's going on during your free consultation call.
If you're under 18, please ask a parent or guardian to contact us.
Where your request goes
Your request goes to a form-processing service operated for Arise Counseling. We call it "the form service" below. It emails everything you entered to the Arise Counseling mailbox, which is hosted by Google. The email is delivered by Resend, an email delivery company, which handles its contents to send it and keeps a copy for a limited time under its own policies. The email stays in our mailbox like any other email.
So that a request isn't lost if the email goes astray, the form service also keeps a backup of your name, email address, phone number, the therapist you chose and when you sent the request. The form service runs at Render, a hosting company, behind Cloudflare, a network company that passes traffic to it. Both handle the contents of your request as it travels to the service. The backup is kept in a database at Turso, a database company. The backup has no set deletion date; you can ask us to delete it at any time (see below). The services you tick, the words you add under 'Other', and your other answers are not kept in the backup; they are only in the email.
Spam protection and errors
To stop spam, the form service checks for automated sending and allows one request per hour from each IP address. It holds your IP address in memory until about an hour has passed and the next request arrives, or the service restarts, and doesn't save it in its database. A second request from the same address within the hour isn't received, so if you need to add something, call us. If a request is blocked by the rate limit or looks like spam, the service's logs record the IP address, and its host keeps those logs for a limited time.
If something goes wrong, the form service reports the error to Sentry, an error-monitoring company. Those reports don't include what you entered in the form.
Cloudflare and Render also receive the technical details every browser sends, such as your IP address, so that they can deliver your request.
How we treat your information
Information you send through this website is transmitted and stored electronically by the companies named under "Where your request goes" and "Spam protection and errors" above. If we learn of a security incident affecting your information, we'll notify you as the law requires.
If you become a client
Clinical paperwork, such as your intake forms and health history, is handled in our Client Portal on SimplePractice, not on this website.
